After a period of instability following the resignation of Richard Windle in February , the Youth Band have now officially appointed Matthew Hindle as the band's new Musical Director. As a pupil, Matt attended Wardle High School with its fine tradition of Brass Band Musicianship. Matt continued his brass band education as a member of the amazingly successful Rochdale Borough Youth Band where he developed his talents as a Bass player under the baton of the formidable Eric Landon. Matt played under the baton of Ian Porthouse at Pennine Brass and then joined the ranks of Foden's Championship Band. He has certainly experienced brass success at the highest levels. Matt achieved his degree at the Royal Northern College of Music and is currently the Head of Music at Tottington High School. Matt is also a founder member and current member of the Jager Maestros, a Bavarian style band who are much in demand for concerts, and who last summer played to packed audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe. The Youth Band are very much looking forward to working with Matt whose enthusiasm and dedication will help the organisation continue its work of teaching children to play brass instruments and enjoy making music as part of a band. Matt’s first challenge will be to lead the band at the Saddleworth Whit Friday contests, followed by a number of concerts and the Youth Band’s visit to Spain in July We are always ready to welcome new players to our group both complete beginners and current players. Please contact us for more information. Thank you

Such sad news that Mark Rodgers, player, conductor and tutor has passed away in his sleep last night. All our thoughts and prayers are with his family, Bob and Mary at this very difficult and sad time.
